Popping is an urban or street dance and a distinctive funk style originated by an African American dancer, Boogaloo Sam in Fresno California during the 1960s.
The technique is hinged on promptly contracting and moderating muscles to cause a jerk in the dancer’s body, termed as a pop or a hit.
This type of body movement is perpetually done to the tempo of a song combining abundant moves and poses.
Umbrella term is also used for popping dance form to refer to a group of illusive and technical dance styles unified with popping to frame a more diverse performance, well-known as robot dance, tutting and waving style.
However, being one of the earliest street and urban dance styles, popping is distinctively related to hip-hop dancing. The dance genre has influenced several new styles such as turfing, liquid and digits.
